3 Ways to Boost Your Career Prospects

If you are stuck in a job you don’t like, or you want to boost your current career prospects, then there are a number of ways you can do so. Here are some ideas that can get your career back on track, or help you begin a new career path, no matter what your age.

  1. Go to university

Whether you’ve previously been to university, or this is your first time, it’s never too late to return to study. Doing a James Cook University Bachelor of Arts is an excellent way to boost your career prospects, as it means you can study a relevant subject, or finally get to graduate level, which is required for many jobs nowadays. While going to university may seem daunting, it’s now more common to go in later life, and there are options such as part-time or flexible study that can help you reach your goals.

  1. Network

Networking is another way to improve your career prospects and take things to the next level. You can do this by:

  • Going to industry events
  • Getting to know people at work outside your department
  • Volunteering to do training, where there are often chances to network
  • Joining professional networks

Networking can help you find out about job opportunities that may not be organised outside the organisation, and it can be a good way to discover a new career path if you’re looking for a change.

  1. Take on more responsibilities

It’s very easy to get belligerent at work and to end up doing the bare minimum if you are bored. However, this can have a negative effect on your career, and it means when a potential promotion comes up, you’re not in a good position to go for it. If you are bored at work, try to take on more responsibilities outside of your role. Not only will this make your day more interesting, it’ll also show your willingness to develop.

If you are looking for ways to boost your career prospects, there are a few things you can do, from further education to networking. In some cases, you can stay put in your current job and improve things, perhaps studying part time and taking on different tasks to work towards a promotion. No matter what your age or what stage of your career you are at, it’s never too late to try something new and get a better job.
